About Us

We believe that fitness is for EVERYONE and should be fun.

The best part is that you will see the direct results of the work you put in. You will find that the fitness and confidence that you build with us carries through into everything you do outside of the box (that’s what we call a CrossFit gym!).

No matter what your level of fitness, we welcome you to join our CrossFit Grahamstown family and to start your journey in becoming even more awesome than you already are!

The CrossFit style of fitness training prepares you, not only for sport, but for everyday life. We will help you build every aspect of your fitness: endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility and balance.

We have a very well equipped, training area just waiting for you to become part of. We offer professionally coached, group classes, featuring CrossFit, Weighlifting, Bootcamp and TRX, each completely customisable to YOUR fitness level. Encouragement is what we feed off. Nobody is left behind and our emphasis is on having fun while training.

The best way to find out what we are all about is to come and try a class for yourself!

Contact us to book. We can’t wait to meet you!

“When I train, I erase all the limits and expectations of what I can do. I am powerful and anything is possible.”

Fitness is 100 words

Coach Greg Glassman, CrossFit Founder and CEO (Courtesy of CrossFit Inc.)

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.

Meet our Team

Rose Palmer

Rose is the co-owner and manager of CrossFit Grahamstown, and has been a part of the box (and hooked on CrossFit) since it opened in 2014. Rose has a Master’s degree in Ichthyology (fish science) but fitness and sport has always been her passion, and she represented her country at the World Rowing U23 Championships. Rose started her coaching career in 2004 as a rowing coach and transitioned to coaching CrossFit. Rose coaches CrossFit, Bootcamp, TRX, SilverFit and also offers personal training. Rose is a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, CrossFit Gymnastics, CrossFit Weightlifting, and a RowSA Level 2 Rowing Coach.

Trevor Davies

Trev is co-owner of CrossFit Grahamstown. He is a well-respected optometrist (so if you get a wall ball to the eye you will know who to call)! He also is a CrossFit level 1 Trainer and truly believes in CrossFit’s ability to improve peoples’ lives. Trev is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.

Kieran Skae

Kieran is one of our CrossFit, Bootcamp and personal training instructors at our box. He started coaching in 2022 but became a regular CrossFitter back in 2021. Kieran did his CrossFit level 1 course in 2022 because his passion for fitness and health has become a growing sensation. Besides being one of our coaches, Kieran is also the strength and conditioning coach for Kingswood College’s 1st XV rugby team, and he is currently doing his Masters’s degree in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics.

Kieran has a diverse sporting background, where he has played numerous sports at a high level during and after school. However, the mixture of functional high-intensive and endurance training has caught his eye, and he is determined to further his knowledge and experience in these two aspects. He completed his first 70.3 Iroman in 2022, which he says is only the very beginning of his fitness goals.

Not only is Kieran focused on improving his performance as a hybrid athlete, but he is also passionate about helping others and their overall health, fitness and well-being.

He has grown into an exciting and enthusiastic coach eager to learn and improve as much as possible. This is only the beginning of Kieran’s coaching, health and fitness career.

Cailin Fuller

Cailin is one of the CrossFit coaches at our box. She is finishing up her degree in Human Kinetics & Ergonomics and Psychology, while running the show as Manager of Move Makhanda in town.

She did CrossFit briefly at ages 14 and 15, and then picked it back up (this time for good) at 19. As her love for the sport evolved she started showing interest in the coaching aspect of CrossFit. Leading up to her Level 1 in 2021, she did multiple Coaches Development Programs with Rose to start building her knowledge and experience. She started coaching from there, later doing her CrossFit Gymnastics Course in 2023.

This sport has done so much for her in terms of her confidence (both in herself and her abilities) and she wants to help others learn more about what their bodies can do for them, and that they’re worth taking up space in a CrossFit box.

Julia Schauerte

Julia is one of the CrossFit and Bootcamp coaches at our box. She is a Speech and Language Therapist by trade and takes a break from teaching little kiddies in the day to coaching slightly bigger ‘kiddies’ in the evenings.

She began her CrossFit journey at 16 years old in a tiny box in Durban without a push up or pull up to her name. Her love for CrossFit grew (as well her as ability to do a push up) and once she completed her CrossFit Level 1 in 2022 started coaching at our box.

Julia is immensely passionate about helping people reach there fitness goals and grow them not only as athletes but as human beings with a strong and capable mind, body and spirit.
